I LOVE the beach and when I was younger my Nonna would take us to Port Aransas every summer. The more we drove and the closer we got I became really excited, ask Jacob I was like a little kid.
It was interesting to see how they have bounced back since Ike, you can tell there are lots of new structures and remodeling. We saw lots of beach front property with brand new paint, and most of it seems to be reopened and ready for business but there was also a lot that is still in shambles.
We made it!
We ate lunch at Fish Tales this cute little boat was out front
I have never seen water that choppy, but it was beautiful!
Cold, windy, rainy.......
This was an awesome hotel on a pier out in the ocean, it took a huge beating from Ike
Can you see the hole in the top left of the hotel
notice the sign says no swimming. Well there were 2 geniuses with surf boards in the water underneath the hotel
All the debris on the ground is the driveway to the hotel, the only way to get to the hotel is a small walkway right behind the old entrance
This is a shopping center facing the beach, notice it has no roof
All of these places face the beach so they got the most of Ike
This must have cost some green to reopen this quickly
Like I said lots of fresh paint
This might be one of the more amazing things we saw, this used to go 1/4 mile into the ocean and this is all that is left of it.
Jacob and I thought the pick up was kinda funny...why has no one moved it yet??
cold, windy and rainy......
This a motel that also went out into the ocean a little bit, it was practically gutted by Ike
When we got back to the hotel we went to Google earth and looked at Seawall Blvd (the main road along the beach) back before Ike and it looks like a totally different place. I am interested in seeing what Galveston will look like come spring and summer when tourist season hits.
